Ordinary Time

Pause

When I am a wasteland, you are the water. When I am the winter, you are the fire that burns. When I am a long night, you are the sunrise. When I am a desert, you are the river that turns to find me. What have I done to deserve love like this?

Listen

Look here! Today I’ve set before you life and what’s good versus death and what’s wrong. If you obey the Lord your God’s commandments that I’m commanding you right now by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments, his regulations, and his case laws, then you will live and thrive, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.

Deuteronomy 30:15-16

Think

Some choices are easy. Chocolate bar … or brussels sprouts? Constant, freezing rain … or seventy degrees and clear? Life and what’s good … or death and what’s wrong?

Actually, maybe this last one isn’t so easy. On the face of it, who would choose death and wrong over life and good? Our lives, though, aren’t always that easy to see, much less to live.

Choosing life and good with God is about right now. That moment that just passed and the one that is coming… wait for it… now. In each of these little moments of life, when our hearts are focused on the heart of God, we are well on the path toward an obvious, if not easy, choice.

Pray

Dear God, I pray that you’d take this one moment of my life and help me to choose you and life and then, when the next moment comes, to do it all over again. I’m counting on you, Lord. Amen.

Go

So many things attempt to take priority in our lives. They each have their place.

Only one stands at the heart of things. Follow the voice of this One, our Lord, calling you today.
