Ordinary Time

Pause

Take a moment to be still, breathe deeply, and think of all the moments when you knew that God was with you today.

Listen

I will bless the Lord who advises me; even at night I am instructed in the depths of my mind. I always put the Lord in front of me; I will not stumble because he is on my right side. That’s why my heart celebrates and my mood is joyous; yes, my whole body will rest in safety because you won’t abandon my life to the grave; you won’t let your faithful follower see the pit.

Psalm 16:7-10

Think

Did you ever have a stuffed animal or blanket that you slept with at night? Those comfort items can help give kids lots of assurance and even courage in the middle of a dark and lonely night. It makes a big difference to squeeze that doll or quilt tightly, remembering that you’re not alone.

Having God in our hearts is something like that comfort item you once had. Our hearts can be joyful knowing that God is with us all the time. When we choose to rely on God, we don’t need to let our fears or our sorrows dictate how we feel. Instead, we can believe that God is wrapping God’s Spirit around us for comfort and for confidence. Even when we are afraid, or when we are sad, God is there to hear our prayers, to guide our hearts, and to help us to rest.

Question to Ponder:

What are you afraid of right now? How might remembering God’s presence help you be less afraid?

Pray

Dear God, there are still times when I’m afraid and sad. In those moments, please help me remember that you are always with me. Give me peace and hope in my heart knowing that you hear my prayers and love me so much. Today I need peace about…

Amen.

Go

May the knowledge that God is always with you fill your heart with joy.
