Reflection on Psalm 27:4

Listen

On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. When the wine ran out, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They don’t have any wine.”

Jesus replied, “Woman, what does that have to do with me? My time hasn’t come yet.”

His mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

John 2:1-5

Think

In this passage, we see a striking moment in the relationship between Mary, Jesus’ mother, and her son. Even though Jesus had not yet begun his public ministry, Mary trusts him completely. When a problem arises at the wedding, she does not hesitate to go directly to Jesus, knowing in her heart that he can do something, even without having yet shown his power in a public way. This act of trust teaches us a great lesson: we do not need to see everything to believe.

Sometimes, all God expects of us is that we take a step of faith and ask for help, even if we don’t understand how or when God will respond. Although at first Jesus seems unwilling to get involved, he ends up performing the miracle, demonstrating that our faith, even in the simplest moments, can open the door for God to work in our lives. The key is to trust, to approach God with a sincere heart, knowing that God is always in control.
