Ordinary Time
Because you belong to Christ Jesus, God blesses you with peace that no one can completely understand.
Philippians 4:7 (CEV)
From now on, brothers and sisters, if anything is excellent and if anything is admirable, focus your thoughts on these things: all that is true, all that is holy, all that is just, all that is pure, all that is lovely, and all that is worthy of praise.
Philippians 4:8
So just how do we obtain this “peace of God”? Paul makes it sound easy, that all we must do is to reflect on what is pure and holy and pleasing and admirable, etc. Easier said than done, am I right? Especially when you’re trying to figure out what all these things are.
But I’m not sure that all those adjectives listed is the key to “achieving” the peace of God, but rather it’s in the verb “think.” It is in the thinking or reflecting on these things, especially in the light of our efforts to follow Jesus, that we begin to understand what they mean and how they help us grow in faith. Thinking takes time and commitment. It’s in the thinking that we open ourselves to the Spirit who helps us to know the peace of God through them.
We are not alone in this, as God is always near, and we also have those who love us who are walking with us along the way.

Question to Ponder:
Who are the people in your life who are walking with you and helping you to understand the peace of God in your life?
Thank you, O Lord, for the people in my life who walk with me in my faith journey.
In turn, help me to walk with others in their journeys, that we may all grow closer to you and have the peace of God in our hearts.
Amen.
May the peace of God surround you.
May the peace of Christ uphold you.
May the peace of the Holy Spirit sustain you.
