Ordinary Time

Pause

Is it wind?
Is it breath?
Is it Spirit?

Calling out around me
Hovering across the waters

Making all things live
Making all things new
Making all things sing

Listen

Let the Lord’s glory last forever! Let the Lord rejoice in all he has made! He has only to look at the earth, and it shakes. God just touches the mountains, and they erupt in smoke.

I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I’m still alive. Let my praise be pleasing to him; I’m rejoicing in the Lord!

Psalm 104:31-34

Think

Have you ever wished life was more like a musical? In my house it seems it often is. Between Hamilton marathons and Disney sing-a-longs, from writing my own music to bedtime singing of “Amazing Grace,” singing plays a big part of daily life in our home.

The psalmist believes that if we encounter the life-giving power of the Spirit, we will sing about it. The Spirit transforms our lives into a song of praise to God. As long as I live, I will sing praise to God! Because the Spirit gives us life our lives should burst into song — like they do in musicals.

The song doesn’t have to be sung out loud. But it should be visible. If you live by the Spirit others will see that you have a renewed sense of life. Others will see that you seem to find grace everywhere around you. This is because the same Spirit who hovered over the waters during creation, who sustains all life on earth, and who raised Jesus from the tomb lives in you.

What song will the Spirit sing in you?
