Pause

Who are you listening to? Who are you looking at?

God, the creator of heaven and earth, calls you…

Here I am Lord, I hear your voice.

Listen

Listen to advice and accept instruction, so you might grow wise in the future. Many plans are in a person’s mind, but the Lord’s purpose will succeed.

Proverbs 19:20-21

Think

Where do you go when you have to make a decision, and you are not sure which way to go? Sometimes life can be complex. Many times we have to decide not merely between right and wrong, but between good and better. How do we proceed when we have conflicting desires, conflicting loyalties, conflicting advice within ourselves? The Bible invites us to seek wisdom. Wisdom is more than knowledge. Wisdom is more than knowing a lot about a subject or getting good grades. Wisdom is being able to apply knowledge to handle the complexities of life well.

How can we become wise people? How can we acquire wisdom? The popular saying, “He who does not listen to advice does not grow old,” encapsulates the truth of today’s passage. Wisdom is in recognizing what we don’t know and surrounding ourselves with people who can advise us as we navigate the complexities of life. Are we surrounding ourselves with wise people? Let’s ask God to surround us with people who can make us wiser.

Question to Ponder:

Who do you listen to when you are confused: your emotions, your friends, or God?

Pray

Give me, O God, a heart like yours. Guide me each day that I may not stray from your ways. Surround me with those who seek your truth. May your will be done in me. Amen.

Go

Keep going, trusting that God goes before you.

God will never leave you alone.
