Pause

We struggle from time to time, wondering in the pain of the moment where God might be, wondering if God knows our situation, wondering if God cares.

Then suddenly, as though out of nowhere, our healing comes.

Pause now with anticipation, and with faith in what is possible.

Listen

And a large crowd followed him and pressed in on him. Now there was a woman who had been suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years. She had endured much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had; and she was no better, but rather grew worse. She had heard about Jesus, and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, for she said, “If I but touch his clothes, I will be made well.” Immediately her hemorrhage stopped; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease.

Mark 5:24b-29

Think

In the middle of a swarming crowd, a woman attempted to be close to Jesus so she might be healed after twelve years of illness. Her faith in his ability to heal ran so deep, after only hearing about Jesus from someone else, that she believed if she merely touched the hem of his clothes she would finally be healed.

When she made it through the crowd to touch him, she was immediately healed. Immediately healed. After twelve years of exams, tests, treatments, doctors, and illness, she was healed without an appointment, exam, or co-pay.

Her story of faith and healing is profoundly simple: She heard about Jesus. She believed in his ability to heal. She reached out to touch him. And she was healed.

What would immediate healing look like for you today? Can you even imagine immediate healing?

Pray

God of healing and restoration, give me the courage to tell others about the healing power of Christ so they may reach out to him for healing and wholeness. Enliven my imagination that I may imagine what immediate healing might look like for myself and my community. Amen.

Go

Go now with anticipation that God may, in the most surprising moment, bring to you the healing you seek, the wholeness you desire. May this be your prayer:

Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved; for you are my praise. (Jeremiah 17:14)
