Be quick, you must be strong
Life is full of wonder
Love is never wrong

“Silent Legacy” by Melissa Etheridge

Listen

Shout triumphantly to the Lord, all the earth! Be happy! Rejoice out loud! Sing your praises!
Sing your praises to the Lord with the lyre—with the lyre and the sound of music. With trumpets and a horn blast, shout triumphantly before the Lord, the king!

Psalm 98:4-6

Think

In the film Dead Poets Society, the English professor, Mr. Keating, works with a shy student (Todd) who doesn’t want to read his poem in front of the class. In order to help him with his shyness and lack of confidence, he quotes Walt Whitman who wrote, “I sound my barbaric YAWP, over the rooftops of the world.” Then Mr. Keating invites Todd to YAWP, and yawp he does! After that, Todd is more open to receive a lesson from Mr. Keating that will make a huge impact in his self-confidence and overall willingness to learn.

It seems silly, but letting out a big yawp can be really good for us. Today’s Psalm reading even says to shout triumphantly to the Lord. When was the last time you went outside and gave God a yawp? Maybe that’s just what we need to connect to God. Give it a try today! And when you do, ask God to give you confidence where you need it. I promise, God will hear your yawp!
