You are my friends if you do what I command you. I don’t call you servants any longer, because servants don’t know what their master is doing. Instead, I call you friends, because everything I heard from my Father I have made known to you. You didn’t choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you could go and produce fruit and so that your fruit could last. As a result, whatever you ask the Father in my name, he will give you. I give you these commandments so that you can love each other.

Think

Remember being on the elementary school playground about to play a team game? Remember when you stood there waiting to be picked for a team? Remember how nervous you were thinking you might get picked last? If you were last, it felt like no one really wanted you on their team. We wanted that validation, that we belonged on the team. Sometimes I got picked, but sometimes I didn’t.

When it comes to how God chooses, know you are always picked first. God always sees the good in you. God always knows you are the right person for God’s team. God never doubts your abilities or your faith. That’s how God’s love works. God doesn’t choose us by how gifted, talented, or faithful we are. God chooses us because God loves us unconditionally. God’s love isn’t just for some, it’s for all. You are never left out of God’s love. God asks just one thing – when it’s your turn to choose, don’t leave anyone out.

Remember today and always that you are loved. Always. Unconditionally. Forever.

Loving God, thank you for your love that never leaves and remains strong. May I reflect that same love so it can bear fruit that will last wherever you lead me.
