Pause

Amidst all the conversations and arguments about faith, there remains this simple thing we are asked to do - believe.

But believing is not always a simple thing.

Be still for a bit, consider what you believe. And who you believe.

Listen

A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.” Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.”

John 20:26-29

Think

It always amazes me about Jesus: he meets us exactly where we are. Not physically of course, but when we are spiritually ready, Jesus comes to us.

Such was the case with Thomas, who said a week earlier, “I will not believe unless I see.” Jesus could have punished Thomas for his lack of faith, but he didn’t. Jesus comes again. He wants Thomas to see him as well. Jesus gives Thomas exactly what he needs. Proof! Jesus allows Thomas to touch his hand and put his finger into his side. Such was a very personal gesture that Jesus didn’t have to offer, of course, but he did out of love for Thomas. Jesus went above and beyond to help Thomas know that his questions and concerns were important and could be answered.

In our struggles to believe, I dare say Jesus does the same thing for us as well! No matter your doubts, Jesus will make a way to be in a relationship with you.

Pray

Jesus, teach me not to be afraid to ask of you what I need to know in order to believe. But also teach me to believe in you even when my life's path isn't clear and when I can't be 100% sure. I want to know you more. Amen.

Go

The saying is sure. I desire that you insist on these things, so that those who have come
