“Do not permit the ways of this world to mold and shape you. Instead, let Creator change you from the inside out, in the way a caterpillar becomes a butterfly.”

Romans 12:2a, First Nations Version

Listen

The Lord rules—the nations shake! He sits enthroned on the winged heavenly creatures—the earth quakes! The Lord is great in Zion; he is exalted over all the nations. Let them thank your great and awesome name. He is holy!

Psalm 99:1-3

Think

Every time I see a snow globe on a desk or table, I can’t resist. I pick it up and shake it. If you are like me, you probably can’t resist shaking it up either. Something magical happens when you shake a snow globe, and the snowfall of glitter suddenly makes the scene come alive. A simple shake and everything changes.

When God shows up, things change.

The writer of this psalm imagines God as king on a throne above the angels. The earth shakes in the presence of this God. There are many images in the Bible of God’s presence, and every time God shows up, something is about to change. It could be something big and miraculous, but it could also be a small shift in how you see those around you. God could be inviting you to be a little more loving, a little more gracious, a little more kind. In following God’s invitation, we become more and more alive.

Question to Ponder:

How is God inviting me to change today?

Pray

God, help me to see your presence today. Open my eyes to notice you in the big things and the little things. Surprise me with your mercy, grace, and love. Amen.

Go

Wherever you go, God is still present.

Wherever you look, God’s light still shines.

Wherever you listen, God is still speaking there too,

Inviting you to change from the inside out,

Showing you that you are made to shine.
