Ordinary Time

Pause

There are a lot of uncertainties in our lives. Relationships don’t always last. Possessions can be taken away or lost. Our abilities can change or even leave us over time. Nothing on this earth is unconditional and true.

And yet, over and over God proves that we can trust in the Lord for all of our needs. We can find rest for our souls in knowing that God always does what is promised. God always loves us, God always shows us the path we should follow, and God blesses us when we simply trust in who God is.

Listen

Now concerning meat that has been sacrificed to a false god: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge makes people arrogant, but love builds people up. If anyone thinks they know something, they don’t yet know as much as they should know. But if someone loves God, then they are known by God.

1 Corinthians 8:1-3

Think

Have you ever found yourself saying, “When I get to heaven, I sure am going to ask God about…”? We all have questions and curiosities about things we want to understand better — especially where God is concerned. There seems to be so much that we don’t know and so much we can’t understand. And while that uncertainty can be a little bit scary, it can also be exhilarating!

It can be tempting to put God in a box and whittle our faith down to a checklist of things we must do to be “good Christians.” But our God is bigger than that! In fact, the scripture reminds us that if we think we’ve got God all figured out, we need to think again!

While it’s great to ask questions and wonder, God wants us to rest in that and be okay not having all the answers. God offers us the chance to relax. We don’t have to work so hard to understand God — we simply have to love God, and the rest will follow.

Pray

Dear God, thank you for listening to and welcoming my questions. And thank you for being bigger than I can ever comprehend. Help me to simply love you and know that your love will always be enough for me. Amen.

Go

When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
