What good is love, really, unless it is true?

Actually, love requires trust, and none is more trustworthy than our Creator.

Trust God now to show you trustworthy love, and to grow it more deeply within you.

Listen

Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.

1 John 4:7-8

Think

When I first created my Facebook account, easily filling in my name, email address, and hometown, I was suddenly stopped short by the blank labeled “Religious Views.” How could I sum up my religious views in that little space? After a few moments’ reflection, I typed, “God is Love. The rest follows from there.”

I think the apostle John would say something similar if he were around today. Legend has it that the aging apostle was asked at every worship gathering to offer a word to the congregation. No doubt those around him wanted to hear exciting stories from his days with Jesus, but each time John simply said, “Love one another.” The people, confused and frustrated, finally asked him why that was all he ever said. John answered, “It is the Lord’s command, and if this alone be done, it is enough.”

Pray

O God of Love, thank you for being exactly who you are. Your love – which creates, sustains, and saves the entire world – is more than enough for me. Amen.
