Ordinary Time

Pause

Every night I lie in bed
The brightest colors fill my head
A million dreams are keeping me awake
I think of what the world could be
A vision of the one I see
A million dreams is all it’s gonna take
Oh a million dreams for the world we’re gonna make

Listen

Sing to the Lord a new song because he has done wonderful things! His own strong hand and his own holy arm have won the victory! The Lord has made his salvation widely known; he has revealed his righteousness in the eyes of all the nations. God has remembered his loyal love and faithfulness to the house of Israel; every corner of the earth has seen our God’s salvation.

Psalm 98:1-3

Think

Have you ever heard a new song that you really liked so you listened to it over and over again? Eventually, you knew every word and every beat of the music.

When our psalm says to “Sing to the Lord a new song,” it calls us to pay attention to God, kind of like we pay attention to that new song we really like. God has done, is doing, and will continue to do wonderful things.

Sometimes it’s hard for us to see God working around us. Sometimes it feels like God is absent. In those moments we can remember what God has done in the past or we can pay attention to who God is. God is love. God is caring and kind. God is always with us. God is loyal and faithful, compassionate and full of grace.

What do you love about God? Take a moment to pay attention to those things. Repeat them to yourself throughout the day so they get stuck in your head like your favorite song.

Pray

God, I praise you for who you are.

Thank you for loving me for who I am.

Teach me to pay attention to you, to listen for you, to think about you throughout my day.

Amen.

Go

The world is not as it should be, not as it could be, not as it will be.

Trust God’s dreams for you and the world around you.

Dream with God of what could be…
