Ordinary Time

Pause

Close your eyes and seek a total connection with God. Think of God and consider what you might receive in this moment.

Listen

Don’t trust leaders; don’t trust any human beings—there’s no saving help with them! Their breath leaves them, then they go back to the ground. On that very same day, their plans die too.

The person whose help is the God of Jacob—the person whose hope rests on the Lord their God—is truly happy!

Psalm 146:3-5

Think

There is a famous saying that power corrupts. In history we can see how good people have been corrupted when they are in positions of power. This can include in politics, religion, or any organization, including the church.

I remember when I was president of the Baptist Youth Union of Puerto Rico. Many young people saw me as a leader, and I was aware that my leadership could guide a person positively or negatively. The desire to serve and listen to the voice of God allowed me to guide young people in their spiritual journey and relationship with God, showing them that I am an imperfect human being like they are. The reality is that many people do not have intentions to serve others. On the contrary, many only want to serve themselves. We must be careful not to place our trust in such people or to become such people.

Question to Ponder:

In whom are you placing your trust?

Pray

God, I ask that my mind and eyes may always be directed to you, so that I may place my hope and trust in you. Help me to discern which people are in my life for your sake.

Amen.

Keep moving forward and never stop sharing what you have received from God.
