Journey to the Cross

Pause

Take a moment to set this time apart. Light a candle, turn on some quiet music, get comfortable in your space, or simply take some time in quiet before you begin.

Listen

They went and found a colt tied to a gate outside on the street, and they untied it. Some people standing around said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” They told them just what Jesus said, and they left them alone.

Mark 11:4-6

Think

I wonder what went through the minds of the two disciples as they set out to accomplish the task Jesus gave them. I have lots of questions. Did they feel completely self-assured or were they nervous about how things would turn out? Were they confident in their ability to successfully retrieve the colt or were they skeptical their plan would succeed?

Along with wondering how they felt, I wonder what questions the disciples might have asked: Will someone stop us from taking the colt? Will we be questioned about what it is for? And how will we respond?

It’s okay to have questions. Sometimes our faith asks us to take risks, to have the courage to step into uncertain situations. When we do, we may find ourselves surprised by the ways that God shows up, even if it’s not how we expect.

Question to Ponder:

What keeps you from taking faithful risks?

Pray

God, sometimes I stand at the edge of what I know is right. I hesitate, waiting, looking for a sign. Help me to step boldly where you are calling.

Amen.

Go

Go and sing loud and dance wild,

speak truth and stand strong,

hold beauty in your heart,

love hard and be soft,

make mistakes and say you’re sorry,

and try always to be you,

because all of life is a hymn singing God’s praise.
