Ordinary Time
Take a deep breath right now.
Notice one thing you see,
one thing you hear,
one thing your body is touching.
You are here in this place. God is here with you, too.
That’s not true for the wicked! They are like dust that the wind blows away.
And that’s why the wicked will have no standing in the court of justice— neither will sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
The Lord is intimately acquainted with the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked is destroyed.
Psalm 1:4-6
If you had a fresh piece of paper and some crayons, what would you draw? For some of us, imagining what to create is a fun process. For others, having a blank piece of paper feels daunting — you want me to draw something? Like what?? Where do I begin?! Help!
Today’s Psalm says the wicked will blow away like dust, that the way of the wicked will be destroyed. Yikes! What does “the way of the wicked” look like? I bet it would be pretty easy to come up with a list: greed, violence, looking down on people because of their skin color… we could easily list a lot more.
And then there’s the way of God: the way of love, equality, justice, mercy. But — how do we move from a path of hate to a path of love? It requires imagination to create a new way, to “draw” a new path, to make a new reality happen that isn’t what we might see in front of us. It requires that we are deeply rooted in our community, imagining and creating a new way together.

God, remind me to lean on my community, so that we can help to usher in your creative way of love in the world.
Amen.
As you go today, choose the loving path of God, remembering that God will guide you.
