Journey to the Cross
Take a moment to close your eyes and think of something different… a place, a feeling, a particular song that reminds you of God’s love.
Living in the Most High’s shelter, camping in the Almighty’s shade, I say to the Lord, “You are my refuge, my stronghold! You are my God—the one I trust!”
Psalm 91:1-2
Confession in the Christian tradition has two main meanings. On the one hand, it means to acknowledge our sins, those things that keep us away from God and other people. On the other, it means bearing witness to our faith and declaring in what or in whom we trust. When we confess our faults, we do so with the certainty that God forgives us and restores us. And when we confess our faith, we proclaim to the world what God has done in our lives through unconditional love and mercy.
In the first two verses of Psalm 91, the psalmist leaves us with his own confession of who God is: protection, hope, and safe haven. In expressing his trust in God, he encourages us to do the same. The psalmist reminds us that God is always present in our lives, in times of joy and in times of difficulty, even when we feel we have failed. Like a shadow that never leaves us, God accompanies us and offers us relief, help, and comfort at all times.

Question to Ponder:
If you were to make your own confession of faith today, how would you describe who God is to you and how God has transformed your life?
Almighty God, today I come to you with a heart ready to trust in your protection. You are my refuge and my fortress, the God in whom I can rest without fear. In a world full of uncertainty, I want to learn to dwell in your shadow, secure in the knowledge that in you I will always find peace. Help me to remember that no matter what I face, you are my hope. Amen.
Close your eyes and take a deep breath.
God’s forgiveness fills us with peace.
When you go out, share that peace with others.
