Ordinary Time

Pause

Pause to see Jesus.

See Jesus living in you.

See the love of Jesus shining through you to others in your neighborhood.

Listen

“I assure you that everybody who gives even a cup of cold water to these little ones because they are my disciples will certainly be rewarded.”

Matthew 10:42

Think

Giving someone a cup of cold water is a small act – unless you are in God’s upside-down neighborhood. In God’s neighborhood, every small act of kindness and generosity is an act of God’s amazing love and grace. Every small act adds up to something bigger, to a beautiful neighborhood where God’s mission is realized.

You may have heard someone say that they went on a mission trip and got more out of it than they gave. This dynamic is so different than the world’s view of community. The world seems to believe that giving away too much might leave one penniless. But Jesus says that giving things away leads to rewards. And maybe the key reward for giving things away is an upside-down neighborhood where people take care of one another.

Question to Ponder

What is one small, intentional act of kindness that you can do today or tomorrow to make the world a better place?

Pray

Loving God of all creation, help me to share all things, big and small.

Help me to turn my neighborhood upside down by sharing your love with everyone.

Amen.

Go

Go.

Love your neighbor as you love yourself.

Love all of your neighbors.

Love all of yourself.
