God, let me hear only you.

Listen

“When he had used up his resources, a severe food shortage arose in that country and he began to be in need. He hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. He longed to eat his fill from what the pigs ate, but no one gave him anything. When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired hands have more than enough food, but I’m starving to death! I will get up and go to my father, and say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I no longer deserve to be called your son. Take me on as one of your hired hands.” ’ So he got up and went to his father.

Luke 15:14-20a

Think

We all will have many moments when we come to our senses, moments when we realize our wrong. Moments when we reflect on previous actions and are saddened by our choices, moments when we face regret. Moments when all we can do is desperately search for someone or something to clean up the mess we’ve made.

The younger son had received his inheritance and in a short time lost everything to poor decision- making. His YOLO (you only live once) mentality sent him back home, desperate, to his father. He came to his senses, realizing he had made mistakes that he could not fix. It took a major loss to change his thinking.

Like the younger son running home, we can go to God in the moments we come to our senses. Although we might deal with shame or fear rejection, God is available. God is there to listen and to receive our request for help.

Pray

God,

I acknowledge you as my help. Thank you for the moments when I come to my senses and realize my mistakes. May those moments lead me back to you, for you are the only true solution to whatever I am going through.

Amen.

As the day flows and your mind goes, may your thinking mirror God’s.
