Ordinary Time
If I said, “The darkness will definitely hide me;
the light will become night around me,”
even then the darkness isn’t too dark for you!
Nighttime would shine bright as day,
because darkness is the same as light to you!
Psalm 139:11-12
I love the Lord because he hears my requests for mercy.
I’ll call out to him as long as I live, because he listens closely to me.
Psalm 116:1-2
To be seen, truly seen as who you are, is more than how someone takes in your image with their eyes. It’s more than a function of how the optic nerve interacts with the brain.
Being truly heard is similar. A person who listens to you might be able to make sense of what you are saying by careful consideration of the words you use. But to truly hear you they need to be open to what your heart intends.
We treasure those friends and family who see us clearly and hear us deeply. Sometimes that kind of seeing and hearing seems rare.
The psalmist in our reading today describes a God who truly hears our hearts, who knows us completely when we call – always.
When we cry out to God, God is ever close at hand and hears us.

God, you see me, and you hear me no matter where I am or what I do. Thank you for watching over me and listening to my prayers. Amen.
Go and see the world as God sees you.
