Ordinary Time

Pause

It is often necessary to step back and look at something from a different point of view. One of Jesus’ many gifts was the ability to make people see something seemingly ordinary from a completely new perspective.

As you go about your day, allow Jesus to help you keep things—good and bad—in perspective.

Listen

Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the scriptures: ‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord’s doing, and it is amazing in our eyes’? Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that produces the fruits of the kingdom. The one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and it will crush anyone on whom it falls.”

Matthew 21:42-44

Think

Culture likes to proclaim something as being “the best!” Whether it’s the newest phone, the latest car, or the greatest athlete, our attention is directed to think what we have is no longer good enough and we need this newest, “best” thing. Focusing too much on these things can lead to poorly ordered priorities.

As Christians, we know Jesus should be our first priority. When Jesus is first in our lives, our perspective shifts away from the wishes of culture to the wishes of God. Jesus should be our cornerstone on which everything else is built.

When Jesus is our first priority—our cornerstone—we produce the fruits of the kingdom and God welcomes us with open arms.

Pray

Christ my Cornerstone, thank you for being a solid foundation for my life. Help me to remember to put you first, and give me the focus to bear fruit for your kingdom. Amen.

Go

It’s easy to only think about things from our one, limited perspective. Jesus pushes us to see differently.

Allow yourself to be challenged. Allow your eyes to be opened. Allow your life to be changed.

Go now, and let the value of knowing Jesus change the lens through which you see the world.
