Ordinary Time

Pause

Pause and imagine! “The Spirit of God and the Word of God are the fuel of your imagination. The key to the strongest and healthiest imagination is a daily quiet time.”

-Rick Warren

Listen

I will bless the Lord who advises me; even at night I am instructed in the depths of my mind. I always put the Lord in front of me; I will not stumble because he is on my right side. That’s why my heart celebrates and my mood is joyous; yes, my whole body will rest in safety because you won’t abandon my life to the grave; you won’t let your faithful follower see the pit.

Psalm 16:7-10

Think

I will never forget the day a friend asked me to mute the voice of my vehicle’s navigation system because it bothered him to hear the instructions. At the time, I didn’t even know that the GPS could be used in silent mode. I decided to give it a try and it remained muted until I missed the next prompt. For me, hearing the voice of the one who guides me changes everything.

David wrote Psalm 16 in a time of distress, yet his tone was not one of despair nor complaint. Rather, he highlighted the benefits of having full trust in God no matter what circumstances you are going through. He desired not only to be guided but also corrected. He describes his heart as one filled with joy as he affirms that he can live confidently through his faithful friend. I like to imagine David making sure not to have God’s voice in silent mode and avoiding any element that would serve as a distraction to effectively carry out God’s instructions.

Question to Ponder:

What things today can lead you to silence the voice of God?

Pray

Lord, you are my shepherd, and I know that I shall not want! Make me sensitive to your voice and lead me by your will. It’s hard for me to hear your voice sometimes because…

Help me to listen. Amen.

Go

Radiate God’s light and share God’s truth.

Live with dignity and attain God’s fullness.

Don’t settle, answer God’s call.

God will use you if only you say yes!
