Ordinary Time

Pause

I want to walk as a child of the light.
I want to follow Jesus.

Therefore, if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort in love, any sharing in the Spirit, any sympathy, complete my joy by thinking the same way, having the same love, being united, and agreeing with each other.

Philippians 2:1-2

Think

This week’s theme is “Walking the Path.” What does it mean to walk the path with God? How do we know what the path is and when we’re on it?

If we pay attention, God is always shining light on the path for us. Of course, the brightest light illuminating the path is found in the life, works, and words of Jesus.

The writings of Paul also provide guideposts along the way. Paul didn’t initially believe in the stories he was hearing about Jesus, and only later experienced a change of heart and mind – quite literally while he was walking a path. After that, Paul dedicated his life to spreading Jesus’ teachings, and his writings are part of the New Testament.

In his letter to the Philippians, Paul encourages his readers to “walk the path” by showing each other the gifts of encouragement, comfort, sympathy, unity, and loyalty.

This wisdom speaks to us today across the ages as our world can feel increasingly discouraging and divided.

Take comfort, knowing that our ancestors throughout time have felt the way we do and that the insights of scripture are here to inspire and guide you.

Amen.

The path is made by walking.

“Traveler, There is No Path” (1917)
