Journey to the Cross

Pause

Can a king be humble?

With robes and jewels, pomp and circumstance, power and servants?

Jesus – the humble king – seeks to serve, not to be served.

Let’s welcome him into our lives today.

Listen

The disciples went and did just as Jesus had ordered them. They brought the donkey and the colt and laid their clothes on them. Then he sat on them.

Mathew 21:6-7

Think

Jesus’s disciples trusted him and were obedient. They did just as he had ordered them, but then they went one step further and laid their clothes on the donkey and colt. The disciples not only follow Jesus by obeying him, but they also want to honor him, and this day, they did that by making him more comfortable as he rides into Jerusalem. Jesus did not ask to be honored.

When you follow Jesus, that indeed honors him. One of the ways you can follow and honor Jesus is by caring for others. In addition to recognizing the physical needs of others, you can make others more comfortable by recognizing them and including them.

Pray

Dear God, help me to follow you by seeing the needs of others.

I know when I bring comfort to others, I am doing your will, and I honor you.

Amen.

We are to model Jesus’s life.

How can you serve God and others today?
