Journey to the Cross

Pause

Can a king be humble?

With robes and jewels, pomp and circumstance, power and servants?

Jesus – the humble king – seeks to serve, not to be served.

Let’s welcome him into our lives today.

Listen

Now a large crowd spread their clothes on the road. Others cut palm branches off the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds in front of him and behind him shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” And when Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up. “Who is this?” they asked. The crowds answered, “It’s the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.”

Matthew 21:8-11

Think

Two disciples laid their clothes on the donkey and colt Jesus was riding, and suddenly the whole crowd followed along. The excitement was contagious. They recognized something incredible was happening, and they wanted to be a part of it. The whole city was stirred up by the events of that day.

You may have been told, “Don’t always follow the crowd.” But what if following the crowd meant following Jesus? The disciples were not shy about following Jesus and because of their example, not their words, others also followed. How can you be an example in your community?

Pray

Dear God, help me to be brave and let others know I follow you.

Help me to also see and recognize others following you.

Amen.
