Ordinary Time

Pause

Jesus our Redeemer, teach us this day faithfulness.

Jesus our Friend, inspire us to act with kindness and mercy.

Jesus the Christ, calm our spirit in the ways of grace and peace.

Listen

God’s power was at work in Christ when God raised him from the dead and sat him at God’s right side in the heavens, far above every ruler and authority and power and angelic power, any power that might be named not only now but in the future. God put everything under Christ’s feet and made him head of everything in the church, which is his body. His body, the church, is the fullness of Christ, who fills everything in every way.

Ephesians 1:20-23

Think

Today is Christ the King Sunday, the last day of the Christian liturgical calendar (Yup, next Sunday we kick off a new year in the church with the first Sunday of Advent.) On this day, Christians around the world celebrate Jesus as King in their worship services. We honor in Jesus the name above all names and a love that knows no bounds. What a savior we have in Jesus the Christ and King.

On this Christ the King Sunday, I invite you to carve out some time to ponder upon the fullness of Christ. Even for seven minutes, using the timer on your phone. Ask yourself:

As a person of faith who is an indispensable part of the body of Christ, why does Jesus the Christ matter to me?

And in what ways am I part of the fullness of Christ?

What gifts of time, talent, and treasures do I bring to the work of the gospel message to love God and neighbor?

Again, for just seven minutes, ponder those three questions on Christ the King Sunday. Expect to be blessed.

Pray

Lord, you are Christ the King, and the fullness of Christ is the church, of which I am a part. What honor and responsibility this is. And what joy, too! Teach me about the fullness of you, Holy One. And deepen my faith so that I may grow into the person you want me to be. Amen.

Go

May Jesus the Christ bless you and keep you.

May Jesus the Christ smile upon you and be gracious towards you.

And may Jesus the Christ lead you on this day in the path of wisdom and peace.

And all of God’s people said,

Amen.
