Ordinary Time
“With great power comes great responsibility.”
Spider-Man
“I give you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, so you also must love each other. This is how everyone will know that you are my disciples, when you love each other.”
John 13:34-35
I spend time thinking about what I’m going to write in my social media bio. I want to be humorous, but at the same time simple, capturing the essence of who I am. Do you do the same? If we went around your circle of friends to ask the essence of who you are, what would they say?
Jesus speaks to his disciples about the importance of their identity. He doesn’t leave them with a suggestion, but the essence of the power of God’s love. If they want to be known as his disciples, it must be because of their love. If you love one another, everyone will realize that you are my disciples. Does the essence of who you are demonstrate God’s love? If not, today is a good day to start loving as Jesus loves. Be a reflection of Christ’s love for those around you. We have great power, and the power of God’s love carries with it great responsibility. We cast the gospel wherever we go, with the power of Christ’s love.

Question to Ponder:
What can you do today to love like Christ?
Good God, thank you for this day. May my character reflect your love. I want to be known as your disciple by the power of love that is permeated in my actions and conversations. In your name, Jesus, Amen.
“I have decided to follow Christ,
my eyes fixed on the cross,
I will not turn back.”
