Pause

Most of us have more than enough to deal with today to be very concerned about what will happen tomorrow. Yet we do wonder about what we can expect in the hours, days, and years ahead.

The God of our present is also the God of our future. Right now is a good time to be still in the moment and to trust all our time to the One who is here – and listening.

Listen

Jesus said to them, “Those who belong to this age marry and are given in marriage; but those who are considered worthy of a place in that age and in the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. Indeed they cannot die anymore, because they are like angels and are children of God, being children of the resurrection. And the fact that the dead are raised Moses himself showed, in the story about the bush, where he speaks of the Lord as the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Now he is God not of the dead, but of the living; for to him all of them are alive.”

Luke 20:34-38

Think

I love that Jesus essentially tells his questioners from earlier in this passage that their question about marriage in heaven is meaningless. He says that God is the God of the living and that everyone will be alive.

How great a picture this paints of heaven for us. I don’t know about you, but there are times even in my life where I feel dead. Not an actual death, but certainly like everything around me has lost life and joy.

Knowing that we are children of the Resurrection and hearing that we cannot die anymore is so refreshing because it reminds us that God is God and our purpose is to just be with God.

It’s freeing to focus both on us living forever and also that we are following the Living God now.
