Ordinary Time

Pause

God, no matter what comes my way today, opportunities or challenges, you are with me.

Remind me that your grace is enough for me, especially when I’m feeling low.

Your grace sustains me.

Amen.

Listen

He said, “Whatever house you enter, remain there until you leave that place. If a place doesn’t welcome you or listen to you, as you leave, shake the dust off your feet as a witness against them.” So they went out and proclaimed that people should change their hearts and lives. They cast out many demons, and they anointed many sick people with olive oil and healed them.

Mark 6:10-13

Think

Yesterday’s devotion was about how we sometimes pack too much, holding on to what makes us feel safe and secure. Like when we pack, we can hold on to people or places in our lives even when we may not need them. It can be hard to admit that we don’t need to be in a certain place. It’s even harder to admit when we don’t need the negativity others might bring into our lives. Those things can keep us from feeling God’s peace.

Jesus sent his disciples off to teach and told them to “shake the dust off” in places they weren’t welcomed or received well. He told them to let go of the negative things that didn’t match the gospel message – that God loves creation so much. It was a hard task, but God’s grace gave them courage.

Where might you dust off your feet? And when you do, where might God’s grace lead you?

Pray

God, it’s hard to leave things that feel familiar, even when they aren’t good for us. Help me to know when it’s time to leave harmful places or people behind. Remind me that the grace you give me is enough. Amen.

God’s strength is enough.

God’s peace is enough.
