Ordinary Time

Pause

Open your eyes.

Open your ears.

Open your heart.

Trust Jesus to lead the way.

Listen

Jesus called to them, “Children, have you caught anything to eat?”

They answered him, “No.”

He said, “Cast your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.”

So they did, and there were so many fish that they couldn’t haul in the net.

John 21:5-6

Think

This is a déjà vu moment for the disciples. When Jesus first showed up on the shores three years ago, he invited the disciples to cast their nets on the other side. Once again, the disciples are stuck in a rut and catching nothing. They keep doing the same thing over and over and getting nowhere. This happens to us all. We keep spinning our wheels, rowing our boats in circles. But then Jesus shows up and invites us to take a different approach.

Are you stuck in a rut? Does your life feel like it’s getting you nowhere? Do your nets keep coming up empty?

Today, open your ears and listen for a new approach from Jesus. You too might just be surprised by a large load of God’s grace. Grace that fills the nets of your soul for the day ahead.
