Ordinary Time

Open your ears.

Open your heart.

Trust Jesus to lead the way.

Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples could bring themselves to ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. Jesus came, took the bread, and gave it to them. He did the same with the fish. This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead.

John 21:12-14

Think

Breakfast with God’s beloved Son. Breakfast seems so ordinary. Eating a meal so practical. And yet, Jesus wants to meet us exactly where we are, exactly as we are.

Jesus loved to break bread, share food, and eat with all sorts of people. When communion or the Lord’s Supper takes place in worship, everyone is invited to dine with Christ. This act of worship is a reminder of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. This act, breaking bread and being thankful for Christ, is something we can do every day.

Today, as you eat a meal, imagine Jesus sitting with you. With each bite of food, let the abundance of God’s grace fill you up.

Pray

Creator God, fill me with your abundant grace.

May I remember with each bite of food to be thankful for all that you have provided in this world, including the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Help me live mindfully and gratefully today.

Amen.
