Ordinary Time

Pause

Open your eyes.

Open your ears.

Open your heart.

Trust Jesus to lead the way.

Listen

You changed my mourning into dancing. You took off my funeral clothes and dressed me up in joy so that my whole being might sing praises to you and never stop.

Lord, my God, I will give thanks to you forever.

Psalm 30:11-12

Think

Dancing is good for the soul. Maybe you’re like me and grew up in a Baptist world that said “no dancing!” Well, I’m still Baptist, and I dance all the time. Dancing helps remind us to live in the world lightly, not grabbing or holding onto anything too tightly. Dancing keeps us on our toes, keeps our heart open and beating to the rhythm of God’s grace.

Joy is the dance move our soul needs each and every day. Joy is not the absence of pain or sorrow but rather a rhythm that helps us shake off the tears and the fears.

Today, take off your funeral shoes and put on your dancing shoes. Turn on some music and move your God-given body to the rhythm of joy. Laugh at yourself. Hold the world a little lighter. Give thanks to God.

Pray

Creator God, breathe life into my bones and get my body dancing.

Help me hold the world around me lightly so that I might move to the rhythm of your grace.

Open my heart so that I might dance with thanksgiving.

Amen.
