Pause

Slow down and be present.

Be present to yourself.

Be present to God, as God is present to you.

Listen for your inner voice.

Listen for what you might speak.

Listen

My brothers and sisters, what good is it if people say they have faith but do nothing to show it? Claiming to have faith can’t save anyone, can it? Imagine a brother or sister who is naked and never has enough food to eat. What if one of you said, “Go in peace! Stay warm! Have a nice meal!”? What good is it if you don’t actually give them what their body needs? In the same way, faith is dead when it doesn’t result in faithful activity.

James 2:14-17

Think

It is easy to think that someone else is going to say something. It is normal to wonder if anyone will listen if you speak, or to wonder even if they hear, whether it will really make a difference.

We live in a world where everyone seems to be talking, sharing photos, telling their opinions all the time. But is it good news? Good news isn’t just about me and what I think. Good news is about others. Good news also requires us to act in ways that back it up.

If we talk about inclusion, acceptance, care, and compassion, and yet we fail to act in these ways, do our words really matter? If you and I believe in love, we have to act in ways of love, and not just when it is easy.

Question to Ponder:

Think about what is important to you. How do you talk about these things? How do you live them out?

Pray

God, help me to back up my words with my actions.

Help me to show what I say.

Amen.

Go

Go with the strength that comes from God.

Go and speak the words God has given you.
