Pause

Slow down and be present.

Be present to yourself.

Be present to God, as God is present to you.

Listen for your inner voice.

Listen for what you might speak.

Listen

Speak out on behalf of the voiceless, and for the rights of all who are vulnerable. Speak out in order to judge with righteousness and to defend the needy and the poor.

Proverbs 31:8-9

Think

It is easy to be embarrassed. It is even easy to feel ashamed when other people are saying things about you. I find it hard to speak in those moments; it is as if my voice has been taken from me. The fear, embarrassment, the uncertainty, and my own sense of not being enough can overwhelm, and my voice is gone.

In those moments, someone speaking up and saying something reassuring, something affirming can change everything. If I know that is true for me, then I can only imagine that it is true for others as well.

The wisdom we hear today from Proverbs reminds us that we need one another’s voice for those moments when our own voice is taken away.

Question to Ponder:

When have you experienced the power of someone speaking up for you?

Pray

God, help me to find my voice.

Help me support others in finding their voice too.

Help me to speak when others cannot.

Amen.

Go

Go with the strength that comes from God.

Go and speak the words God has given you.
