Pause

I will praise you on the mountain, and I will praise you when the mountain is in my way.  You’re the summit where my feet are, so I will praise you in the valleys all the same.

Your word is a lamp before my feet and a light for my journey.

Psalm 119:105

Think

How far do you think you can walk in complete darkness before running into something? Most of us can at least walk small distances in our homes at night without stubbing our toes. But what about when we’re outside of our homes? When we’re pulled outside of our comfort zones and our familiar spaces, suddenly our confidence begins to falter.

If God is calling you beyond what you’ve always known, if where you’re heading isn’t where you’ve always been, how can you be sure you won’t fall on your face? You can be sure because you haven’t been left alone. Even in the face of new challenges, circumstances, and questions, the collective witness of God’s people in scripture is there to guide you on what it means to love God and love your neighbor. Will all the answers be spelled out for you? Probably not.  It’s still your calling to take the next step, but you do so in good company that helps light your path. You’re not alone!

Question to Ponder:

How might scripture be shedding light on your next step?

Pray

God who calls me beyond my comfort zone, help me remember that I am not alone in following you. Give me the wisdom to learn from those who have come before, and the graciousness to be a light for others on their journeys.

Amen.

Go

I’m sure about this: the one who started a good work in you will stay with you to complete the job by the day of Christ Jesus.
