Listen

Listen, my people, to my teaching; tilt your ears toward the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth with a proverb. I’ll declare riddles from days long gone— ones that we’ve heard and learned about, ones that our ancestors told us. We won’t hide them from their descendants; we’ll tell the next generation all about the praise due the Lord and his strength— the wondrous works God has done.

Psalm 78:1-4

Think

This Psalm is attributed to Asaph, a great singer and songwriter of the time of David and Solomon. He begins by getting our attention and declaring that our God is: 1) worthy of adoration, 2) strong and above all things, and 3) the source of wonderful works all around us.

Do you ever stop to think about the nature of God? You all, we’re talking about THE Creator here. In my 2018 book on faith, Mean Christianity: Finding Our Way Back to Christ’s Likeness, I write that the nature of God is “both comforting and unsettling – encouraging in that I can live my life knowing the Creator of the universe is available to me at the asking, and disquieting in the sheer magnitude of that thought.”

Here’s the Very Good News. We belong to a Very Big God who loves and cares for us. Even in our most difficult times, we can rest in this thought. Our God is worth serving!

God, although I can’t fathom your size and magnitude, I can feel your love today. Help me to share this love with others. Let others see Jesus in my words and actions this day. Amen.
