Journey to the Cross

Pause

Close your eyes. Breathe.

Prepare your heart to be welcomed into God’s presence through scripture. Be at peace knowing that God is there even when you feel all alone.

Allow God’s word to challenge and inspire you today.

Listen

God says, “Because you are devoted to me, I’ll rescue you. I’ll protect you because you know my name.

Whenever you cry out to me, I’ll answer. I’ll be with you in troubling times. I’ll save you and glorify you. I’ll fill you full with old age. I’ll show you my salvation.”

Psalm 91:14-16

Think

During his forty days in the wilderness, I can only imagine how Jesus must have felt. He has no food, no water, he is alone, and the devil keeps coming to tempt him. I probably would have gone stir crazy — and definitely would have starved to death.

But if we think about our own wilderness times, I bet we can identify with the way Christ might’ve felt. In the wilderness, we feel alone and like there is always something there tempting us to a better life. I can only hope that Jesus found comfort in the words from the Psalm: I will rescue and protect you.

When you find yourself in whatever wilderness life gives you, be mindful of how much God loves you and wants to care for you. It may not make the time go by faster or even seem better, but it should give you courage to be strong and to hope. Hope that God is there to give you the nourishment and support you need.

Pray

God, our strength in times of need, be with me today and everyday when I am feeling alone in the wilderness. Give me the peace to realize and accept that you are there, giving me support and love. Amen.

Go

Love and live this day, knowing that you have the strength of Christ to guide you and keep you during your times of wilderness.
