Ordinary Time

Pause

Place your hands over your heart.

Whisper, “Lord, may I hear your words today with a heart true to you.”

Listen

Keep my steps steady by your word; don’t let any sin rule me. Redeem me from the people who oppress me so I can keep your precepts. Shine your face on your servant, and teach me your statutes.

Psalm 119:133-135

Think

Have you ever gotten lost? Last year, my husband worked in England and when he needed to go to meetings in various towns, I would often accompany him. On one occasion, I decided to be bold and investigate a larger city by myself, assuring myself that I would remember the buildings along the way so that I could find my way back to my hotel. I walked up hills and discovered quaint shops and a lovely park. When I got tired and tried finding my way back to my hotel, I realized that the shops all started to look the same. Panicking, I made several complete circles around the town centre. Finally, I recognized the direction to go and gratefully focused each painful step towards my hotel.

Our lives are journeys. Sometimes the path is easy and other times, the path can be confusing and painful. The psalmist says that God’s word works as a steadying force. That steadying hand gives us protection from sin and helps us to navigate both difficult relationships and situations.

Question to Ponder:

Is there a problem that you are trying to navigate by yourself?

Pray

Lord, I give over to you any problem that I have been trying to resolve on my own.

Shine your face on me.

Thank you for guiding my steps.

Amen.

To be wise is to be still… and to listen.

Listen for direction in God’s voice.
