Place your hands over your heart.

Whisper, “Lord, may I hear your words today with a heart true to you.”

He told another parable to them: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and planted in his field. It’s the smallest of all seeds. But when it’s grown, it’s the largest of all vegetable plants. It becomes a tree so that the birds in the sky come and nest in its branches.”

He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast, which a woman took and hid in a bushel of wheat flour until the yeast had worked its way through all the dough.”

Matthew 13:31-33

Think

Jesus uses two simple illustrations here to represent the kingdom of heaven: a seed and yeast. The beauty of the seed and the yeast is that though small, they both develop into something great and substantial. But notice that someone had to plant the seed. Then the seed needed time to develop. Likewise, someone had to put the yeast into the wheat flour. Then it took time for the yeast to be worked into the dough.

How do we fit into the scheme of the kingdom of heaven? A wise sermon that I heard recently had as its theme: “bloom where you are planted.” If you and I bloom where we are planted, are we not helping to nurture the kingdom of God?

Question to Ponder:

Where can I see great blessings that started from small seeds?

Pray

Lord, help me to recognize that I am part of something larger than myself… the kingdom of God.

Help me to remember that small beginnings can bloom into great blessings.

Amen.
