Ordinary Time
Place your hands over your heart.
Whisper, “Lord, may I hear your words today with a heart true to you.”
“The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure that somebody hid in a field, which someone else found and covered up. Full of joy, the finder sold everything and bought that field.
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls. When he found one very precious pearl, he went and sold all that he owned and bought it.”
Matthew 13:44-46
Have you ever found buried treasure? Maybe not, but you might have found an unexpected ten-dollar bill in the pocket of your jeans or uncovered a gift card in your desk drawer that you had forgotten about. Finding these little treasures gives a momentary pleasure.
In this passage, Jesus gives us more perspectives of the kingdom of heaven through the examples of a treasure and a pearl. The kingdom of heaven is a rare find that is worth giving up everything else in order to obtain it. The beauty of the kingdom of heaven is that it is not a momentary or temporary treasure… it is the find of a lifetime… an eternal lifetime!

Question to Ponder:
Where have I had a glimpse of the kingdom of God this week?
Lord, help me to discern true value between what the world offers and what your kingdom offers.
Help me to recover my joy in finding daily treasures in your word.
Amen.
To be wise is to be still… and to listen.
Listen for direction in God’s voice.
