Ordinary Time

Pause

I take a deep breath and pause in God’s presence. I set aside my own haste and open my heart to let God’s truth guide me.

Listen

Honor your father and your mother so that your life will be long on the fertile land that the Lord your God is giving you.

Do not kill.

Do not commit adultery.

Do not steal.

Do not testify falsely against your neighbor.

Do not desire and try to take your neighbor’s house. Do not desire and try to take your neighbor’s wife, male or female servant, ox, donkey, or anything else that belongs to your neighbor.

Exodus 20:12–17

Think

When we read the list of commandments together, we discover that they are not cold prohibitions, but rather a sacred tapestry designed to nurture our relationships. God does not view us as isolated beings, but as deeply connected to the community. Every word seeks to protect the dignity, truth, bonds, and well-being of those around us.

In a world where the culture of disposability and competition leads us to view others as rivals or means to an end, God’s law calls us to active empathy. Honoring and caring for life, speaking the truth, and celebrating the good in others are acts of loving resistance. Promoting justice and healing in our daily relationships is the most concrete way to embody God’s love in the world.

Question to Ponder:

What good deed can you do this week?

Pray

God of the community, I acknowledge that I sometimes find it difficult to nurture and heal my relationships with others, especially when…

Give me the courage to uphold the truth, protect the dignity of others, and create spaces where your peace can transform my surroundings. Amen.

Go

Go in peace. Go with the certainty that God guides your steps, restores your life, and renews your hope. Be a reflection of God’s love, light, and grace to everyone you meet along the way. Amen.
