Ordinary Time

Pause

In seeking, we find renewal in the things we did not notice before. When we seek God, we open ourselves to the goodness that is God’s abundant grace.

Listen

In the same way, the Spirit comes to help our weakness. We don’t know what we should pray, but the Spirit himself pleads our case with unexpressed groans. The one who searches hearts knows how the Spirit thinks, because he pleads for the saints, consistent with God’s will. We know that God works all things together for good for the ones who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:26-28

Think

Imagine that you are stuck on the side of the road with a flat tire. You don’t know how to fix it, and your phone isn’t charged, so you can’t call for help. Just when you start to panic, a kind helper pulls over to assist you. This is a small picture of bigger things in our lives. When we are in trouble or feeling unsure, God sends the Holy Spirit to be with us. In hard times, the Spirit—also called the advocate or helper—intercedes on our behalf.

While we may experience hard things or suffer at times, we can rest in the fact that God has been, is, and always will be with us. Our hope can be placed in the Holy Spirit, who will advocate for us when we aren’t sure what to do ourselves.

Question to Ponder:

What is one affirmation or short prayer that you can repeat to yourself when you feel like you’re unsure of what to do?

Pray

Dear God, thank you for always being with me. Help me realize that when I am weak, you will send your Spirit to help me. Amen.

Go

Take a few minutes to intentionally seek God in a way that makes sense for you. This could look like journaling, exploring nature, reading scripture, or spending time with friends.
