Ordinary Time

Pause

I take a deep breath and pause in God’s presence. I set aside my own haste and open my heart to let God’s truth guide me.

Listen

Remember the Sabbath day and treat it as holy. Six days you may work and do all your tasks, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God.

Because the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and everything that is in them in six days, but rested on the seventh day. That is why the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Exodus 20:8–10a, 11

Think

In a society that measures our worth by our productivity, exhaustion has become a badge of honor. We demand of ourselves that we perform at our best without rest, as if life were a race with no breaks. We forget that God’s first act after creating the universe was not to produce more, but to pause, contemplate the beauty of creation, and rest.

The commandment to rest is not a reward earned through effort, but a sacred right and a practice of divine resilience. To sanctify our free time is to recognize that our identity lies in being loved by God, not in what we manage to produce. Pausing in our daily rush is an act of faith that reminds us that the world does not depend on our own strength, but on the loving care of our creator.

Question to Ponder:

What do you need to take a break from?

Pray

God of creation, teach me to let go of my haste and my desire for control. Bless my moments of rest and renew my strength so that I may learn to live in the present moment with gratitude, peace, and contemplation. Amen.

Go

Go in peace. Go with the certainty that God guides your steps, restores your life, and renews your hope. Be a reflection of God’s love, light, and grace to everyone you meet along the way. Amen.
