Ordinary Time

Pause

Let us pay attention to what we can see and what we cannot see; what we can feel and touch, what we can hear and smell. God manifests in many different ways in our lives.

Listen

While Jesus was speaking to them, a ruler came and knelt in front of him, saying, “My daughter has just died. But come and place your hand on her, and she’ll live.” So Jesus and his disciples got up and went with him. Then a woman who had been bleeding for twelve years came up behind Jesus and touched the hem of his clothes. She thought, If I only touch his robe I’ll be healed.

When Jesus turned and saw her, he said, “Be encouraged, daughter. Your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that time on.

Matthew 9:18-22

Think

There are stories that mark our lives forever. The story of a dear friend who was diagnosed with cancer marked my life. The doctors gave her three months to live. To the surprise of many, she lived several more years. My friends faith was very strong. She knew she wanted to join God’s work in creating the rest of her life’s story.

The first part of the hymn, O God of My Soul, reads, O God of my soul, be thou my vision; let nothing turn thee from my heart. That is what we must focus on every day. We may be presented with situations where we feel weak and doubtful. When we cry out from our hearts, God centers us in God’s ways because we have the assurance that we believe in a God who makes all things possible.

We can create our own story by recognizing that our Lord Jesus Christ stays by our side, hand in hand, giving us strength and hope in difficult times.

Question to Ponder:

Where do we place our trust even when we experience difficulties in life?

Pray

God of vision and strength, help me focus on you in spite of the situations I am experiencing. Let me see all that is possible in your name. Amen.

Go

Go into the world with an open heart to receive the goodness of God and share what you learn day by day. May the blessing of God guide and enlighten you today and always!
