Ordinary Time
Created, seen, loved, entrusted, sent.
This is the relationship we have with the creator.
This is what God has done for us.
When God began to create the heavens and the earth—the earth was without shape or form, it was dark over the deep sea, and God’s wind swept over the waters—God said, “Let there be light.” And so light appeared. God saw how good the light was. God separated the light from the darkness. God named the light Day and the darkness Night.
There was evening and there was morning: the first day.
Genesis 1:1-5
Have you ever tried to create anything? I’m a photographer, and I often ask myself about my intention when taking a photo. I do this to remain connected to what I hope to achieve with an image. This makes the creation process a deliberate choice and gives me agency over the camera settings, the direction of the lens, and what I put in the frame. I choose what the photo will be before I click the shutter.
I’m mindful of reading this passage, because God seems to have clear intent in this story of creation, creating first the “void,” then the light. Separating them and even naming them. Day and Night are “good” and not an accident. They seem to be as God intended or imagined them to be.
Our world often feels chaotic. Noticing God’s intent can bring comfort and help us connect to our own sense of purpose.

Question to Ponder:
How does it feel to think of God creating with intention and purpose?
God, thank you for bringing forth day and night with clear purpose. Help me find comfort in your intention when the world feels erratic, unfixed, or out of control. One thing that feels out of control today is…
Amen.
Go in safety, for you cannot go where God is not.
Go in love, for God’s love alone endures.
And go in peace, for that is God’s gift to those whose hearts and minds are in Christ Jesus.
