Ordinary Time

Pause

Created, seen, loved, entrusted, sent.

This is the relationship we have with the creator.

This is what God has done for us.

Listen

Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the earth! You made your glory higher than heaven!

When I look up at your skies, at what your fingers made—the moon and the stars that you set firmly in place—what are human beings that you think about them; what are human beings that you pay attention to them?

Psalm 8:1, 3-4

Think

Did you know that Elmdale, Kansas, is one of the best places in the United States to view the stars? It has very little light pollution. On a clear night, you can see the Milky Way Galaxy spread across the sky. I know this because I have worked at a nearby summer camp and had the opportunity to stare up in wonder at the vast expanse of the heavens. It is always awe-inspiring and leaves me feeling somewhat small.

Taking in the glory of creation, whether it’s the stars, a mountain view, or the Grand Canyon, can take our breath away. It’s hard to imagine that the one who created such immense beauty also created us or would “care for” us.

The immensity of God’s creation can make God seem distant at times. But remember that God is “mindful” and draws near. God created the stars and also cares for you.

Question to Ponder:

How do you experience God caring for you and being mindful of you?

Pray

God, thank you for the overwhelming beauty of your creation. Help me to know that I am part of it. That I am connected to the creation and to you. Help me know your love and care. Amen.

Go

Go in safety, for you cannot go where God is not.

Go in love, for God’s love alone endures.

And go in peace, for that is God’s gift to those whose hearts and minds are in Christ Jesus.
