Following the Star

Pause

God loves you.

Such a simple phrase and yet so hard to wrap our brains around some days. In these busy days of Advent leading up to Christmas, let’s pause as we think about this week of love. Today, may you be reminded of one of the ways God loves you.

Listen

Now to God who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages but is now disclosed, and through the prophetic writings is made known to all the Gentiles, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith— to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever! Amen.

Romans 16:25-27

Think

Growing up, my mom put the tags on the bottom of the Christmas presents. We weren’t allowed to touch them. We had no idea which presents were ours. She used to put the tags on top, but then we would try to figure out what was inside, and she made a rule that if we guessed our present, we couldn’t have it. I think she got so tired of excited children trying to figure out presents without telling her our guesses, that she gave up and put the tags on the bottom. By Christmas morning the tree had presents under it, but that’s all we knew. The passing out of presents was almost as fun as opening them because we had no idea what was coming to us!

The blessing today talks about a secret that was kept for long ages (much longer than we had to look at those presents without touching!) This secret is now known. Not only that — the secret is made known to everyone! Let us celebrate the love that has been made known to everyone.

Pray

God, the best present of all is your love for me. You have shown me in so many ways. May I keep looking for it, finding it, and sharing it with everyone I meet. Amen.

Go

Go now knowing that you are loved by God. You always have been. You always will be.

Go and share that love with the whole world. Make sure everybody knows.
