Back to School

Pause

Take a deep breath. As you inhale, breathe in God’s renewing hope, peace, and love.

As you exhale, release fear, pressure, doubt, and anxiety.

In this moment, remember: God is near, and you are not alone.

Listen

Give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make his deeds known to all people! Sing to God; sing praises to the Lord; dwell on all his wondrous works! Give praise to God’s holy name! Let the hearts rejoice of all those seeking the Lord! Pursue the Lord and his strength; seek his face always!

Psalm 105:1-4

Think

At the beginning of a new school year, it’s easy to focus on schedules, supplies, sports, grades, and everything you hope goes right. But Psalm 105 reminds us to begin somewhere even deeper: with gratitude and with God.

Renewal often starts when we pause long enough to notice where God has already been at work in our lives. Maybe it’s a friendship that carried you through a hard season, a teacher who encouraged you, or a moment this summer when you felt peace, joy, or hope. Remembering those moments can give us strength for whatever comes next.

The psalm also reminds us to “seek God’s presence continually.” Not just on Sundays or when life feels difficult, but every day, in classrooms, cafeterias, rehearsals, practices, and conversations. God goes with you into all of it.

Question to Ponder:

Where have you already seen God at work in your life, and how might remembering that renew you for this school year?

Pray

God, thank you for the ways you have been present in my life already. As this school year begins, help me notice your presence in ordinary moments. Renew my spirit with gratitude, courage, and hope each day. Amen.

Go

Go into this day renewed in mind, heart, and spirit.

May you notice God’s presence in quiet moments, trust God through life’s storms, and journey with courage, compassion, and peace.

And may you remember that wherever you go, you are never alone.
