Back to School
Let us move into a new school year with a spirit of discernment and hope for renewal.
Because of the grace that God gave me, I can say to each one of you: don’t think of yourself more highly than you ought to think. Instead, be reasonable since God has measured out a portion of faith to each one of you.
Romans 12:3
It can be hard to be honest with ourselves. Admitting our faults and assessing where we have room to grow doesn’t exactly sound like a fun way to spend the afternoon, but it’s easier when we remember that our God is a God of newness and transformation. Rather than beating ourselves up about where we want to change or improve this school year, we can shift our perspective to think of this exercise as a way to discern where we want God’s work to begin.
Remember that having room to grow is part of being human! Only God is perfect; humans are designed to be learning and changing, and Christians learn and change with God at the helm. Be reasonable, as the apostle Paul asks, and frame every growing edge as a prayer of invitation for God to work, right where there’s the most room for transformation.

Question to Ponder:
In what areas do I want to grow this year?
Dear God, you made me human, with both gifts and faults, and you love all of me. Help me to discern where I have room to grow more fully into the person you designed me to be, and meet me in those growing places so I can rely fully on you. One area of my life I want to grow is…
Amen.
Go into the world resting in the confidence of your identity in God, who designed you, loves you, and goes with you every step of the way.
